21st Century Classroom

WELCOME
My name is Natausha Glenn. I am a sophomore at Edinboro University. I have a vison for my future classroom. I would love to work at an inner city school and teach second grade.  I would feel like I am making a huge difference for the students in those types of schools. I know that inner city schools are not the most well off finacially so I intend to make the most out of the resources I have available to me. At this website, http://laroncarter.wordpress.com/2009/11/19/create-a-floor-plan-that-flows-from-your-classroom-door/, they explain how to set up a successful classroom to avoid problems like cluttering up an area and how to make the classroom flow with the activities I will be doing. http://www.illinoisloop.org/desks.html This website advises us to seat our students facing forward because they learn better than if they are in a group cluster.

SETTING
Because I want to teach in an inner city school, I attemped to make this classroom reasonably like what would be expected. All of the students are facing forward because it helps them to pay attention to what I am doing and not get distracted by what their peers at their table are doing. I included a smart board in the front of the classroom. I would use this in place of the typical black board and I would allow the students to come up and use the board during class for activities. We have four computers in our classroom where the students will be able to look up things such as a certain type of animal for our science class. Most families may not have a computer so they will be used for in class work only.

INSTRUCTIONAL GLIMPSE
This is an introduction lesson I would do with my students. By doing this, we will learn about each other and we are going to establish goals for the entire class to meet by the end of the school year. Also by presenting themselves, students are learning social skills they will use for the rest of their lives.
